About Java Jayne Upcycled Coffee Sacks

Java Jayne products are inspired by a good cup of coffee and a spirit of sustainability.

What We Make:

Java Jayne makes stylish and useful items from reused burlap coffee sacks, a waste by-product of the coffee industry.

We reclaim the burlap bag material from local coffee roasters, who receive green coffee beans in them from all over the world. As the roasters roast the green coffee beans, the empty 150 lb. sacks are either thrown out as waste or given away. Java Jayne saves the bags from entering the waste stream by giving them a whole new life as a whole new product.

How We Make It:

Java Jayne uses the burlap material to create unique, one-of-a-kind items that are cherished, useful and best of all, recycled. Coffee sacks are gently washed to remove travel dust, and are naturally air dried.  We make our own patterns, and cut each piece of burlap by hand.  Each item sewn or crafted in New Hampshire, USA.

Materials Used:

The primary material of all Java Jayne products are discarded burlap coffee sacks. We do use other conventional material when needed, but try to use as many eco-friendly, reused, or repurposed materials as is possible.  As we find new eco-friendly materials, we will continue to replace the traditionally made materials in our products with the more eco-friendly options so we can continue to move toward a more complete green product.

Customers may sometimes notice inconsistencies in the burlap material. These inconsistencies are from the nature of the burlap itself or from its former life as an International coffee bean sack. As the coffee moves from bush to bag to coffee roaster, the green beans are sometimes sampled for quality assurance. Inspectors use sampling spears to allow them to inspect the beans without opening the bags. Although designed to minimize damage to the bags, they do sometimes make a small mark or tear.

We are opening a restaurant in Naples FL in November. The theme lends itself to a blank. T burlap tyoe server’s apron.
We would need 100 units, but they are custom. They should be 36″ by 36″ square with 1 pocket and a tie back. We would be embroidering the pocket with our logo, a large letter T.
Can you provide such a product or even a 36″ by 36″ finished and hemmed piece of burlap and a pocket . We woould do grommets and our own leather tie back at a local source.

    Please let me know.

      Hi Michael,

I make these aprons etc by hand from used burlap coffee sacks. They pretty much all come with the original logos of the coffee manufacturers so are not plain burlap. Not sure if that would matter to you. Since this is a hobby, I would not be able to get you 100 of them by November, but could make and deliver them over a period of time. Please let me know if you still have any interest.

      Kind Regards,

      Diane
